I will set off on this amazing journey in less than a month now. In reality, the journey started a long time ago, when the desire to go on a short-term mission trip began to build in my heart and mind. I still haven't found an organization that I can go with (not that they don't exist, just that I haven't made the connection with one yet), so I've watched as God has prepared this visioning trip to learn more about His heart for people.
God has been preparing this route for awhile now via various events: my country of birth, work opportunities, through the people I've met over the past few years and through the transition from sponsoring a young lady in Kenya (who graduated a few years ago) to sponsoring a girl in Burkina Faso.
Being from Denmark and learning that my colleague was going to take a course there led me to join him for the course as well. And a trip to Denmark without visiting my good friends in Holland would just seem unthinkable! Then I will head to Africa to visit Christiane and meet the lady I've been put in contact with through a mutual friend that I met at a Bible study a year ago. Another friend, who I met at the same Bible study, will be taking me in at my next stop - Cambodia. Then on to Taiwan to spend some time with a good friend that I met nearly 2 years ago at church. The passion that many of these people have for reaching out to those who are lost in other parts of this world have been fuel to a spark that God had placed in my heart. I'm excited to learn what this flame will become as I walk with Him during this journey.
My hope is that God will impress on me which place I should go back to on a regular short-term basis to help with rehabilitation. I would love to work with survivors of burns, concussions, wounds, and other traumatic injuries. I trust that God will lead me to meet those people that I need to talk to in order for any of these dreams to be realized. For now, I will continue to prepare for this trip (just 1 more needle needed before I leave ... I've already had 7) and try to get as many medical/dental supplies together to bring to Burkina Faso for the project there. I am also trusting that a Massage Therapist or 2 would be able to do some locum work for me while I'm gone (to treat those I'll be leaving for nearly 2 months and also help with business expenses). And there may be some people who need a place to stay while visiting BC ... a friend of mine has already expressed a need. Isn't God amazing at how He provides? (uhuh, that is a redundant question! The answer is a resounding YES!!!).
For now, I will try to get 27 really good sleeps. So I sign off wishing you all a good night and the hope that God will touch your heart in a special way!
Shalom (may the peace of God be with you).
